Supporting GACD infrastructure and research programmes through finance and management

GACD associate members are publicly funded agencies whose primary objective is to fund health research and who contribute to the support of Alliance infrastructure and research programmes through finance and management.

  • National Health and Medical Research Council, Australia

    The National Health and Medical Research Council is a founding member. The Chief Executive, Prof Anne Kelso is a GACD Board member.

  • São Paulo Research Foundation, Brazil

    São Paulo Research Foundation – FAPESP, joined the GACD in 2016. It’s Scientific Director, Prof Britto is the GACD Board member.

  • Canadian Institutes of Health Research

    The Canadian Institute of Health Research is a founding member of the GACD and its Executive Vice-President, External Affairs and Business Development (EABD, Michel Perron is a GACD Board member.

  • Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences

    The Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) is a founding member and its President Dr Chen Wang (M.D., PhD) is a GACD Board Member.

  • Research & Innovation DG, European Commission

    The Health Directorate of the Research & Innovation Directorate General at the European Commission is a GACD member. Dr. Barbara Kerstiëns, MD, MPH is the Head of Unit responsible for Non-communicable diseases and the challenge of healthy ageing and sits on the GACD Board.

  • Indian Council of Medical Research

    The Indian Council of Medical Research joined GACD as its second low- and middle-income country member. Professor Balram Bhargava, Secretary, Department of Health Research, (Ministry of Health & Family Welfare), Government of India and Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is a Board Member.

  • Agency for Medical Research and Development, Japan

    Japan joined GACD as a member in 2016. The President of AMED, Dr Makoto Suematsu is the GACD Board member.

  • The National Institute of Medical Science and Nutrition Salvador Zubiran, Mexico

    Dr Guillermo Ruiz-Palacios, Director of Mexico’s National Institutes of Health sits on the GACD Board.

  • Health Research Council, New Zealand

    New Zealand’s Health Research Council joined GACD in 2017, and Professor Kathryn McPherson, Executive Director of New Zealand’s HRC sits on the GACD Board.

    Dr Peerapol Sutiwisesak, Director of Thailand’s Health Systems Research Institute sits on the GACD Board.

    The NIH is a founding member of GACD. We work specifically with the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institute of Mental Health (NIHM) and the Fogarty International Center (FIC). Dr Roger Glass, Director of the Fogarty International Center, is a GACD Board member.
