Preparing a grant application can be daunting- and even more so when you are trying to manage an international consortium. The resources on this page provide some guidance around applying to GACD funding calls and what to expect.

Applying to a GACD funding call

GACD Calls are joint transnational calls, coordinated by GACD alliance members (and funding partners) that have decided to take part in a specific call. Our calls enable researchers to collaborate across national and scientific borders to tackle the global challenge of non-communicable diseases, using an implementation science approach to study implementation of evidence-based interventions, in low- and middle-income countries and underserved populations in high income countries, including some Indigenous populations. GACD calls are open to all researchers eligible to apply to the funding agencies participating in the call.

  • Each GACD Call has a specific focus; the guidance on this page is general, so please see the Funding Call page for additional call-specific information, including eligibility, remit, call topic and funders taking part.

  • Most GACD Alliance members participate in our Joint Application Process - however, two of our agencies, the US NIH and the EU Commission, run their own independent application and review processes. Please refer to the specific call webpage for information on how to apply to these agencies.

  • Each participating funding organisation has their own, separate budget- there is no common funding mechanism. Each organisation will fund researchers eligible to receive funding from them. Applicants must adhere both to the specific regulations of their funding organisation/s and the GACD funding guidelines.

What happens once your proposal has been submitted?

For the Joint Process:

  • Applications are checked for eligibility and remit

  • A group of international experts review the applications

  • Funding agencies use the recommendations of reviewers to decide which applications to take to the review meeting (triage)

  • Applications that are selected at triage will be discussed at the Joint Peer Review Meeting

  • Peer reviewers make recommendations to individual funders, who decide which applications to support

Please note, the EC and NIH run their own independent evaluations.
