Eighth GACD Funding Call- Implementation research targeting chronic non-communicable disease risk factors associated with city environments
In the context of this funding call, ‘cities’ included urban centres, informal settlements and slums, and periurban areas. Research focused on improving health equity in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) or among disadvantaged populations in high-income countries (HICs). Proposals that took a planetary health approach and that brought together teams across disciplines and sectors are encouraged. Evidence of collaboration with communities and decisionmakers, such as policymakers or health system leaders, is required.
Programme objectives
The projects funded under this call will collectively:
provide city leaders globally with evidence-based policy and practice recommendations that:
promote population health in equitable and environmentally sustainable ways; and
address the challenges of rapid urbanisation, growing social inequalities, and climate change.
improve capacity for cross-sectoral implementation research.
contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 3.4 to reduce premature mortality from NCDs by one third by 2030.
