- Project SU26 (2020 — 2022)
- Scale Up Research Programme
Colombia, Jamaica
Background
A multidisciplinary team of investigators from Colombia, Jamaica, and the US will work with national and local government agencies and health systems to test the implementation and effectiveness outcomes of implementing and scaling up a team-based care strategy for hypertension control in Colombia and Jamaica. This study will identify effective, equitable, and sustainable strategies to achieve hypertension control in routine clinical settings and reduce cardiovascular risk in the general population of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as other low- and middle-income countries.
Aims
To test the reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation (fidelity), and maintenance (sustainability) of implementing a team-based care strategy in primary care settings in Colombia and Jamaica.
To assess the barriers and implementation outcomes (acceptability, adoption, appropriateness, feasibility, fidelity, implementation costs, penetrance and sustainability) of scaling up a team-based care strategy in primary care clinics in Colombia and Jamaica.
Project plan
A multidisciplinary team of researchers from Colombia, Jamaica, and the US will test the implementation and effectiveness outcomes of a team-based care strategy for blood pressure control in Colombia and Jamaica. The first aim is to test the reach, effectiveness, adoption, fidelity, and sustainability of implementing the intervention in a cluster randomized trial. The second aim is to assess barriers and implementation outcomes of scaling up the intervention, using an observational study.
