Two new studies from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Chronic Kidney Disease Prognosis Consortium have found that chronic kidney disease is a strong risk factor for premature death in itself and not only in combination with other risk factors such as hypertension or diabetes.
Chronic kidney disease affects 10 to 16 percent of all adults in Asia, Europe, Australia and the United States. Understanding the disease and its linkages with other chronic diseases is therefore crucial.
