NIH webinar: community health workers tackling chronic diseases

May 15, 2013

Published in News

Join the webinar hosted by our member agency the UnitedHealth and National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NIH, NHLBI) on how community health workers can minimise the impact of chronic diseases in low- and middle- income countries.

A recent Lancet report into the Global burden of Chronic Diseases in 23 developing countries stated that targeted prevention and control over the next 10 years would avert 24 million deaths and save an estimated $8billion dollars.

NHLBI hopes to respond to this challenge by funding research that engage community health workers in the implementation of chronic disease prevention and control strategies.

Learn as they explore the differences, success and challenges of community health worker (CHW) interventions in low, middle and marginalized communities in high-income countries. Topics covered include how to engage CHWs and ways to address their training needs so that they are effective in the prevention and control of chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.
