The WHA is the world’s primal decision making body on global health that convenes every year in Geneva, Switzerland. Last year we saw the following highlights:Delegates from a total of 194 World Health Organisation (WHO) member states will meet this month for the 66th time on 20-28 May 2013.
Last year we saw the following highlights:Delegates from a total of 194 World Health Organisation (WHO) member states will meet this month for the 66th time on 20-28 May 2013. This year will see delegates review the draft action plan for the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, assess the progression of the Millennium development goals (MDGs) and address counterfeit medicines amongst other items.
New global health measures including the adoption of a resolution to reduce non-communicable disease mortality by up to 25% by 2025 in member states[i]. A request of further intervention into reducing the health consequences of early marriage and pregnancy i.WHOreform and proposals to enable greater transparency within theWHOin areas of finance[ii]. TheWHAprovides a unique opportunity for representatives from the civil society and the private sector to participate in discussions with leading international policy makers. The Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD) Executive Director, Celina Gorre is also in attendance and through the delegation we hope to highlight the efforts of theGACDand contribute to the non-communicable disease global agenda.
