The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine are hosting a one day symposium on the 12th February 2013, on the topic of ‘Preventing Global Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) through Low Carbon Development’.
The symposium aims to share information between the NCD and sustainability communities and to identify common causes and inter-linkages within these communities’ agendas.
Both NCDs and climate change are enormous threats to global health and previous synergies attempting to tackle these major health threats have received limited attention to date.
Speakers will present an overview of each subject and highlight the important links between the two. This will be followed by a session showcasing research and policy actions that achieve both NCD prevention and low-carbon development.
Key speakers include: Sir George Alleyne, Emeritus Director of the Pan-American Health Organisation, Sir Bob Watson, former DEFRA Chief Scientist, Dr Carlos Laura, from WHO/Department of Public Health and Environment, among others.
