GACD is delighted to welcome the UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), as the latest Associate Member of the alliance.
GACD as an alliance of international public funding agencies supporting research activities intended to improve the prevention and treatment of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as heart disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases, mental ill-health and cancers. GACD focusses on the needs of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and key vulnerable populations, where 80% of deaths from such chronic diseases occur.
GACD is delighted to welcome the UK Government Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) as the latest Associate Member of the alliance. DHSC through the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) has a strong interest in pursuing applied global health research in low- and middle-income countries, and has already been contributing to the GACD annual funding calls in partnership with the UK MRC, including the current call on cancer prevention.
Dr Val Snewin, Head of Global Health Research Partnerships at DHSC will become the senior representative on the GACD Strategy Board.
