The George Institute today launched ‘Building Back Better after Covid-19’, a research agenda series highlighting the importance and impact of Covid-19 on non-communicable disease prevention and management in different contexts.
The launch video featured GACD Chief Executive, Dr Morven Roberts, and other experts from across the globe discussing the impact of Covid-19 on key research questions – in particular for the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
Morven highlighted the need for robust evidence around effectiveness of virtual solutions being used in healthcare as a result of the pandemic, such as telephone appointments. Discussing chronic disease management, Morven also called for the need to collect evidence around solutions for those who are unable to visit clinics or pharmacies to obtain their medication.
On the importance of future research, Morven said: “There was perhaps never a time when doing research was more challenging, but doing research is incredibly important to provide us with that much-needed evidence on how we will tackle the next pandemic more effectively and more quickly.”
The George Institute is working to highlight different aspects of the intersection of the pandemic with NCDs, the importance and impact of Covid-19 on NCD prevention and management in different contexts, and key research questions and innovation opportunities emerging as a consequence.
