Editor’s note: The Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD) is a group of major international public health research funders. We aim to inspire and inform policy and practice to reduce the global health burden of Chronic or lifestyle diseases, through high quality applied research. The GACD was established in 2009 to support clear priorities for a coordinated research effort into the growing health crisis of NCDs (non-communicable diseases), which is now reaching world epidemic proportions. Its International Secretariat was founded in January 2012 and is based at UCL’s Institute for Global Health.
